Career Services launched two new teams at GMAI: The Leadership Team, comprised of Infinity Phase Future Professionals (FPs) earning a 98 percent or higher attendance and meeting all areas of satisfactory progress, and the Spirit Council, comprised of FPs who maintain satisfactory progress and complete an application with Career Services. The purpose of the new teams is to foster team building, leadership and presentation skills for FPs eager for success in an industry that rewards great performance and participation.

“The Leadership Team is great because it makes the FP feel like they are at the helm. They have a chance to run the ship.”

Catherine Aguilera,
Esthetics FP and Leadership Team member.

Whereas both teams help with student activities such as Graduation Ceremonies and Warm Welcome Gatherings, that launch orientation week, it is primarily the Leadership Team, overseen by GMAI Future Professional Career Leader Kennedy McGahuey, that will run all events that require time outside of regular school schedule. This enables FPs to earn extra hours as part of business building, fundraising and management skills. The spirit Council, overseen by GMAI Career Resource Leader William Welsford will focus on in-school events that occur within regular scheduled hours, such as the weekly morning meetings and wellness rituals including the oh so anticipated reading of the “daymakers” and , of course, birthday announcements. Special events, honored guest welcoming rituals, in school parties, charity funding and what ever needs a touch of spirit will be the focus of Spirit Team members.

“We are always looking for new team members that want to be part of something bigger than themselves. People who get involved and volunteer time make the best salon professionals”

Gary Howse, GMAI Founder.

Members from both teams will be able to add membership details on resumes and cover letters letting potential employers know that they love making a difference for their internal as well as external communities. Leadership Team members arrive at school a half hour early every Wednesday to meet and discuss ways they can enhance, organize and bring GMAI mission forward at upcoming events. Likewise, Spirit Team members meet each Tuesday before the weekly morning meeting to gather and gear up for a week of positive spirit and great fun. Anyone interested in learning more, or to suggest ideas for either team, can contact Kennedy or William in Career Services. They would love to hear your ideas.

GMAI got off to a great start this spring with the third ever biannual Career Fair. For nearly 6 months Cosmetology and Esthetics Future Professionals (FPs) planned and organized in teams to inspire participating salons and spas. The event began with attendees setting up booths on the clinic floor followed by a guided tour of the spa where Esthetics FPs in the Infinity Learning phase displayed their custom decorated skin care rooms, fully equipped with various items of inspiration including everything from cabana like motifs, natural elements, flowers and paintings to photos of far off lands and yes, resumes.

Following the Spa Rotation guests took a seat on the Cosmetology clinic floor to witness the much anticipated Fashion Show put on by teams of cosmetology FPs. The theme this season was “Human Nature.” An array of blossoms and petals were strewn across the runway as one-by-one models steadily and artfully pranced, danced strutted, and twisted down the runway. Each design team, made up of FPs from water, fire, air and Infinity learning phases orchestrated head to toe looks on paired models. After each look was presented, teams came out on the runway to take a bow in front of their models. Afterwards the fair was open and all the GMAI FPs toured the booths and met with and shared resumes with potential future employers.

Friends of Gary Manuel Salon and Gary Manuel Aveda Institute succeeded in raising $20,000 for the Siskyou Project.

The response was phenomenal as Guests of Gary Manuel Aveda Institute and Gary Manuel Salon took part in Citysearch.com’s annual Best of Citysearch poll.

Remarkably, GMAI ranked in the top three for Best Facial. Gary Manuel Salon was voted the editorial winner for Best Salon and, no surprise, Gary Manuel Salon was voted the editorial and audience winner for Color and Highlights.

Voters responded with kind words and wonderful feedback as well. The whole Gary Manuel Team sends out a heartfelt Thanks to everyone who voted. We promise to meet your expectations.
